In this tutorial you will learn how to add products in WordPress / WooCommerce in a minute, regardless of your digital skills level. This tutorial is only for adding simple products. If you do not have the WooCommerce plugin installed, you can download it from here or you can find it in the WordPress plugin library. After installing it, you can configure the online store data, or you can choose to fill it in later. This data does not influence the process of adding products.
The steps to add products are simple:
There are two ways to add a product to WodrPress / WooCommerce. You can add it from the WordPress admin panel or you can add it from any page of the site, from the shortcut at the top of the site.
After logging in as an administrator, you can go to the WordPress admin panel, to the section Products > Add New.
If you are logged in as an administrator, you should have a black bar above your site with several shortcuts. If you don't have that bar, you can go to your WordPress admin panel in the Users, select your user and check ""Show the toolbar when I view the site."
If the bar is displayed, go to Add > Product.
In this section, add the product name, as complete as possible. For correct optimization, also add the product attributes. For example, for clothes you can add the size (L, XL, etc.) and the color (red, blue, etc.) and in this case for this motor oil, I added the brand, type of oil, quantity and make of vehicle for which it is recommended. It is not recommended to add a title like "Motor oil". It will be indexed quite chaotically and most likely you will not have any organic orders.
Tips: To find the right name for your product, you can search for a product sold by Amazon and try to come up with a similar name.
Products added to WooCommerce always have two descriptions; one short and one long. At a WordPress website, the short description generally appears between the title and the add to cart button, and the long description below this section.
The long product description is the first in the product add panel, although it is below the short description on the page that the visitor sees. This long description can contain all the relevant details of the product and is always a good idea to fill in, although it is not mandatory.
The price of a simple product in WordPress / WooCommerce is filled in from the section Product data > General. The regular price is filled in with the product's selling price. The "Sale Price" section is for discounts. In the example below, the product's original price is 99 Lei, but it is reduced to 75 Lei. Visitors will see the regular price of 99 Lei, cut off and small, and the price of 75 Lei will be higher and in a different color.
To the right of the product add panel in WordPress / WooCommerce, there are several boxes that also need to be filled in. For images, there are two boxes; product image and product gallery.
The main product image is added from the section "Product Image". This is the main image that will appear everywhere on the site. It is advisable that the image is square and in WebP format. There are many free converters on the internet, a simple one is Pixelied, and a more advanced one is Bulk Resize Photo.
Imaginile secundare se adauga din sectiunea „Galerie de produse”. You no longer need to add the main image to the product gallery. If you add the main image to the product gallery, it will be displayed twice on the product page.
In the section "Product categories" You can select an existing category or create a new one. If you are adding the product to multiple categories, you can select the main category with the blue circle.
Under categories there is a section called tags. It is recommended to add tags for each product.
At the top right there is a blue button with "Publish". Don't forget to press it to publish the product. After you publish a product, a message will appear saying "We have published the product. View the product".
Tips: Every time you edit a product, click the "Update" button that appears instead of the "Publish" button.
